St Lucia nordics

Happy St. Lucia Day! 

Have the Nordics celebrating it! Sweden is really happy because he got to be Lucia. Iceland, on the other hand, is not pleased with having to wear the girl version of the costume. Another problem is of course that everybody knows a different version of the text to the Lucia song - not to mention all the other songs...

St. Lucia is a holiday Celebrated mainly in Sweden, but also to some extent in all the Nordic countries. The 13th of December was believed to be the Darkest day of the year, and by that day all christmas preparations would have to be finished, or else bad things would happen. Hence in the middle ages, "Lussi-day" it was actually a day of fear, when everyone had to stay in and fast. The 13th of december is also the celebration of the catholic Saint Lucy of Sicily (for some reason widely celebrated in the very protestant Nordic countries).
Nowadays, boys and girls dress up in long white gowns, carrying candles and singing Lucia- and Christmas songs. The boys usually wear pointy hats with stars. One girl gets to play the role of St Lucia, which means walking first in the line wearing a big crown with candles.
